OUR CORE VALUES
Alta United Methodist Church encourages its members to participate in the following opportunities for basic growth in discipleship in order to live faithfully as servants of Christ:
WORSHIP: "Remember the Sabbath..." is a commandment. It is given to us by God as a gift. Worship orders life and is the basic activity of people of faith. Each member of Alta UMC should take the opportunity to worship at least once a week.
MISSION and SERVICE: "Faith without works is dead" - this biblical principle is a challenge to engage in intentional kingdom building in today's world. Alta United Methodist Church will offer counsel and suggestions as to how its members can put their faith into action as they share in work that advances the mission of Christ and the church.
GIVING: Money is an important part of everyone’s daily life; the way we spend our money reflects our priorities. What is as important, or perhaps more important, is the attitude with which we give to God, in the many different ways we give. Give joyfully and as you are able. Please refer to 2 Corinthians 9:6-15
SPIRITUAL FORMATION: Personal relationship with God is the essence of the Christian life of faith. Christians maintain their faith through the practice of prayer, discernment, devotional activities, Christian companionship and acquaintance with the faith classics. The Ministry of Spiritual Formation affords a variety of opportunities for cultivating the “heart and mind of Jesus Christ.”
HERITAGE: The heritage of the Methodist movement is important and deeply inspiring. The insights of John and Charles Wesley, their rules for Christian living, and the unique linkage of personal faith with social action, set United Methodists apart for the work of Christ.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION: Christian Education is a life-long journey which should be nurtured and fed. All ages are encouraged not only to participate in either one-time or long term events, but to contemplate what activities might increase their learning and then share that with others.
THINKING THEOLOGICALLY: Anyone who thinks about matters of faith is a theologian. But knowing how to think theologically about every aspect of life is as important as knowing what you believe. Every member is encouraged to develop a way of thinking theologically through the educational and experiential options offered at Alta UMC.
